Basically they are brine shrimp eggs that are sold along with a little tank. You add water and the shrimp hatch... then you get to feed them and watch them grow.. etc.

Wow. I would never think that anyone wouldn't know what a Sea Monkey is.

Maybe I should get some.

Yeah, they're brine shrimp... which are microscopic. It's not like they're real monkeys or something...

This thread reminds me of a great South Park episode.

Not quite microscopic, but yeah.

I feed 'em to my fish.

OK, not microscopic, but small enough that the tank has magnifying lenses on the side so you can see them better. :) It's about as tragic as a bunch of dead insects. And if you think a bunch of dead insects is a tragedy, you need to get off the vegan bandwagon. ;) The tank doesn't even come with the dead sea monkeys.

Yes, for decades they have been sold as fish food. Sea-Monkeys began to take off when people began to realize that they make better pets than the fish.

OK, so the brine shrimp died. I fail to see how this is a big deal.

Well, if he hasn't cleaned the tank yet, and if the sea monkeys were alive for at least a week, there's a good chance that they managed to breed and lay eggs in which case the eggs are lying dormant in the tank waiting to be revived with some water.

Personally I think triops are alot cooler.

Agreed.
