sure-fire way to anger Ned:
1. company goes on strike
2. company schedule undergoes minor changes
3. a 5-minute operation that normally has to be done once a day now has to be done twice a day
4. in an employee meeting, company biotch gripes incessantly about losing 5 minutes of her day (and I mean incessantly with a capital INCESSANTLY)
5. clueless vp's conclude that company biotch has a valid point
6. clueless idiot at the meeting suggests changing everyone's schedule so that company biotch doesn't lose 5 minutes of her day
7. clueless vp's take clueless idiot's suggestion to heart
8. all the employees at the company now have to come in to work an hour earlier so that company biotch doesn't have to lose 5 minutes of her day

Moral of the story: company biotch needs a lot more "shut the hell up already"

I thought your name wasn't really Ned...

Take a bat to her face. That'll fix her right up.

so everyone has to come in an hour earlier because of her? I'm surprised people aren't burning effigies (sp) of her in the parking lot or tried creating a lynch mob. That would create riots where i work.

How...does...5 minutes turn into 1 hour for everyone else? What the hell does she do in 5 minutes that equates to several hours of worktime for the rest of the staff?

Wow, you must have one of those spineless VP's. I know the type. All someone has to do is get very angry, cry, or give some sort of empty threat and he'll cave in to whatever the person wants instead of saying "nobody else feels the way that you do."

A good way to get out of that situation (I use it myself), is after the crackpot employee gets done with their emotional tirade, push the pressure to everyone else. Ask "Does anyone else agree with her or have any comments?"

Then, you let them fight and battle amoungst themselves for a few minutes while you sit back and finish your shrimp cocktail. Once they are done, you go with the opinion of the survivors :D

my previous bosses were like that. they wanted to be everyone's friend and not a boss so they let everyone get away with tons of stuff and if you had a valid complaint about people doing stuff wrong, they wouldn't pay any attention to it.

I'd suggest stabbing her in the face with a soldering iron.

Should take care of the issue.

WTF? So what the hell does she do for your company that she can't spend the extra 5 minutes to take care of whatever it is? Your VP needs to grow a set. I sure as hell wouldn't show up an hour early to accommodate her. Can her sorry ass and find someone who wants to actually WORK at work.

I suggest making her job more difficult by putting her low on your list of priorities. If she needs something, be busy with your other work. You still need to do her stuff, but make sure it is dead last on your list of things to do. If your coworkers feel the same, they will probably make it difficult for her, too.

If she outright complains again in public about the lack of cooperation, complain yourself that you are swamped with work and her needs can't always come first in your list of things to do. You can always say "I assume I need to deal with the large company needs before I deal with helping out with individual work."

We have mass scales throughout our facility. To make sure they are calibrated, we are required to do scale checks on them once a shift. To do a scale check, you take about 5 designated standard weights of different masses, place them on the scale, and make sure the scale displays the correct mass. Then you record the readings from the scale in an in-house application so that you have a record of the check being done. At most, this whole process takes about 5 minutes.

As I said, the check has to be done once a shift. The shift we have been working since the strike began is from 8am to 4pm. In the in-house application, the shifts are hard-coded as 7am to 3pm. So when we arrive in the morning, we have to do a shift check. Then at 3pm, the in-house application requires us to do another shift check. Thus, two checks in one shift.

So, due to the "snowball of stupidity" (as one of my coworkers calls it), instead of a few people doing a 5 minute process an additional time each day, everyone is now required to work from 7am to 3pm.

But there is a more. Because of the strike we are all being bussed into the facility, and also rely on the busses to leave the facility. The first bus doesn't leave until 3:30. So now we are 1) working an hour earlier, and 2) working a half hour longer.

But wait, there is even more. The company has decided to pay all of us time and a half for the extra half hour. For a few hundred employees, this adds up to a significant cost.

And all because the company biotch doesn't want to do a 5 minute scale check an additional time each day.
