Hi, i have a Interjac router/firewall connected to my pc with dsl. it works fine. However i want to connect another computer in another room too so i got a Netgear 4 port hub, model EN104. I dont know much about networking as this is my first expericences. Anyway, i thought i would add the hub without second computer attached, make sure mine was working before going any farther, well mine wont work (online) when i connect to hub, i think i have the connections right, manual isnt much help, seems as tho hub and router and dsl are ok but my computer cant see it, i even bypassed the router to see if that helped and it doesnt, for lack of experience with networking i dont know what to try next, anyone? please be basic if you will as all the jargon and things that expericenced people take for granted in this area is all new to me, thanks

Oh, i have to use a hub as this router doesnt have any extra ports to connect another computer, its a expensive router, from a office that has had been networked online before so i know its possible/capable of doing it. Its just a older model (Interjac 200 )
And the hub i got from a friend, it too was working when disconnected. So it should be good too.

Main things first would be placement of cables to get right first?

line == router == computer : works
line == router == hub == computer : broke

If you do not get link lights between the router and the hub then:

the connection on the router is an out port to the inport of the computer.
the connections on the hub are outports, except *maybe* for one uplink port.
an outport to and outport will not work with a straight cable.

solution: plug the router into an uplink port, flip the port type switch on the hub's uplink port, or use a crossover cable.

ok i did try router (out) to hub (uplink) uplink button in uplink mode, still doesnt work. I do not have a crossover cable as of yet, so just putting it on hold till i get one to ty, thanks for the replies guys
