someone help: what's wrong with this picture???

scroll down about 3/4 of the way and you'll see a picture taken from the san francisco chronicle. apparently the editors had to apologize for the picture being objectionable. i don't have the slightest idea!!!!

after wasting about 5 hours at work, i turn to the forums for enlightenment

some things: that's a local copy on his server, so it hasn't been changed
the title of the book is called: "tale of two valleys"

anybody have a clue? i'm gonna lose sleep over this one

i don't think any amount of photoshopping's gonna help. already tried just about every filter known to man

i thought for a while that this was some sort of prank, but don't know how many of you listen to boortz, but it just doesn't seem like something he would do.

fwiw i emailed the boortz show already. he gets so many emails now that he's syndicated though so i'm not holding my breath for a response... unfortunately i don't have much time to listen to the show anymore

Yeah all I can really see that might make it objectionable is the person being strangled on the tractor, maybe it is the car that is objectionable, it looks like it is a smiling devil car with fangs when you zoom in on it.

first thing that popped in my mind was that there was something 'little mermaid'-esque about the pic, but i just can't see it.

Edit: I checked the Chronicles site, and there is no apology there except for a drawing that should have been credited to mississippi for some reason.

Well to lay the symbolism on... the guy is driving a foreign made car (BMW) through what looks to be the 'Heartland of America', perhaps suggesting something unpatriotic in some weird way?
