So I got a gyroball to help work out my arms and slow the onset of eventual carpal tunnel. I've seen dozens of instructions on how to use it, the gyroball I bought even came with a video demonstration where the guy did it 4 different ways.. still can't get it.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me in as intricate detail as posible how you get these bastards going? I've searched and many other people have the same problem, so for now I don't feel like a total schmuck.

For those who still think I'm talking about a pitch that Dice-K throws

Are you hanging shirtless from an cliff as the packaging suggests?

There's your problem.

I have one and I too cannot get it going. I had 1 on 1 training from an avid user and I still cannot get it to work. Maybe I should ebay it.

I can start mine with just my thumb. It's a feel thing and I do not know the best way to explain it in a forum post.

alright, hand it over. ill give it back in a few secs...
just get it going reasonably fast with your thumb, then start 'twisting/rotating' it. just takes a certain feel. once you play with the thing while its moving, you will learn the right motion, and thats the same motion you need to get it started.

Yeah I know once I get it going and find out the right "feel" for it I'll be able to sustain the motion, but finding the right way of getting it moving is harder then I thought.

Get a docking station for it? Umm, there should be a string that you wrap around the inside of the ball then pull quickly until you get a "spark".

Of course real pros start it up just with their bare hands. :)
The one at my house can be started by rubbing it against your open palm quickly in one fluid motion.

i had to use the string when i first got mine.
then keeping it going was tough.
but you get the hang of how to use it and keep it going, you should be able to start it w/ just your hands.

Hold the ball in the palm of your right hand with the open part facing up. Rotate it so that the grove where the string should go bisects the 'Y' or 'L' between your thumb and pointer finger. With your left thumb, start the rotation as fast as you can using a flicking motion, akin to striking a match if your thumb were the match. Immediately start rocking your wrist from side to side as if you were opening a doorknob. You will be able to feel when you get the inner weight to rotate. At this point you can shift the ball in your hand a bit and rotate it using your wrist as if you were stirring some soup with a large-diamater spoon. That's a bad example, as I don't think I've ever stirred soup like that, but whatever.

This will either take a few times to get the hang of or you will end up throwing it through the window.
