People have come to view 'Expectations' as something that can be greatly influenced by the motive and will of the human spirit, but the reality might remind some of the definition Dickens employs in "Great Expectations". Expectations are not deterministic goals, but are rather, complex interactions between an unimaginable list of predetermined chance committed in the past and present which the afflicted has little to no influence over whatsoever. Needless to say, expectations, especially great ones, are certainly not common place. While positive expectations then are for the most part unlikely, failure in attaining those often lofty goals is not always accompanied by adverse consequences.
