I have ECS 741GX-M motherboard with Duron 1600+

The motherboard would only recognize the speed as 600 mhz. There is a number changing setting in BIOS but no matter what number I set it to, it only reports as 600mhz...

How do I get out of this jam? Thanks.

Ummm I would recommend you DON'T change any numbers as it seems you might not know what you're doing and it could turn out to be disastrous.

It sounds like one of your BIOS settings is setting your Front Side Bus at too low a speed. Which will lower your CPU speed too. Does anyone here know what speed the Duron 1600+ runs at? If its 1200 MHz, then the motherboard may be cutting the FSB in half for some reason.

(EDIT: Mods, please forgive my abrupt language.)

Welcome to AT Forums. 🙂

Try using the jumper to clear your CMOS to see if it recognizes your CPU correctly. When the machine first boots, check the CPU settings. The FSB should be 133 MHz, and the multiplier should be 12.

You may also want to check for the latest BIOS for the latest BIOS and the latest drivers for your board.
