My new MSI GeForce 2 Pro just arrived. I installed it in my System and ran Quake3 Demo127.

I got a FPS rate of 48. WTF!!!! I was getting 30 with my TNT 2 Ultra!!!!

In Anand's review of the Geforce 2 Ultra, a P3 550 Machine was getting 88.9+ FPS on a Geforce 2 GTS 64. I should be getting at the very least in the 70's.

Here are my specs:

Intel P3 550 FSB 100
256MB Ram

I was running at 1024x768x32 with everything else set to the normal settings.

Windows ME
I'm running Detonator version 11.01.
- Vsync off
- Anti Aliasing Off
Quake 3 Version 1.27g

Please Help!! I feel like I just wasted $200.00.

Thanks,

updated original, but yes Vsync is off and AA is off.

I know these scores are fd up. When I was reviewing Anand's Geforce 2 Ultra Review. He ran it with a P3 550, and the Geforce 2 GTS 64 was scoring like 98 FPS.

So why in the heck am I scoring 40?

I disabled Vsync and AA in the driver's properties area. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Brian

Might check vsync in Q3 too. Also try moving your config files out of the q3 directory & restarting q3, letting it recreate these with defualt entries. Then change your res, color depth, detail etc. Just a hunch, but it sounds like you might have a Q3 issue rather than driver. BTW.. what do D3D scores look like?

Well I ran 3dMark 2001, and score just under 1800 at 1024x768x32.

I have Directx 8.0.

I was also dissapointed by this. My score with my TNT2 Ultra was 1100.

Now I used the results browser on madonion.com and found someone with a similar setup who score around 2200. So I'm thinking I'm not too far off that mark.

I am in the process right now of uninstalling and completely reinstalling quake3. I too thought it might be a q3 issue, so we'll see how that turns out.

On a seperate note, anyone know where to get the nvidia 10.80 drivers? I'm running 6.50, and it seems that alot of people have 10.80.

Thanks,
Brian

The only thing I can think that might be causing the problem, is a badly set Clock Rate. Maybe because I took out my TNT2 Ultra card and put in my new GeForce 2 Pro Card, it is still using the clock rate from the TNT2 Ultra.

I have the reference Nvidia Version 11.01 drivers installed. Anyone know of a way to check the clock rate?

Thanks,
Brian

Don't have a link right off hand, but do a search for "coolbits". It's a reg tweak that will allow an OC'ing tab in the NV Drivers.

Found a tool with my drivers, I'm running at a core clock rate of 200Mhz and a Memory Clock of 400Mhz.

Is this correct?

Yep, your card is clocked right. You do have the AGP drivers for your MOBO installed right?

I'm running the Abit BH6. Hmmm don't know if their installed or not. Does Windows ME automagically install them? If not, how can I check?

Thanks,

Well I think I've found the problem, but I don't know the solution.

I switched Q3 to it's fastest settings. Disabled anything cool. And I'm still getting 55.1 fps.

So it seems that my VSync is definitly on.

I've disables in in both the display settings and in Q3.

Anyone know of anyway to fix this?

Thanks,
Brian

9x has AGP drivers for BX.. thought you might be running a VIA board, in that case 4in1 drivers need to be installed. Sorry, no new ideas here.

You may need to go into the Q3A directory and check the q3config file. I believe codehack2 already mentioned this. The setting you are looking for to disable vsync is:

seta r_swapInterval "0"

Make sure it's set to "0" to disable vsync. I have it enabled (don't like the tearing) and get over 85 fps with the highest settings at 1024x768x16. Also, use the 6.50 drivers, and use the Coolbits registry hack:

Detonator3 6.50+ WIN9x Overclocking
