Someone has stolen my sister's XM Radio

It was a sony XM Radio receiver. They just took it. Not the antenna. They cut the wires and took it.
Why would anyone ever do that? It's not worth anything. It will never work again. You couldn't even pawn it, because it's useless and therefor worthless.

I would say it's more likely that some idiot thought it was worth something.
That's probably the case. Did you call XM and have them flag the radio as stolen? That way, it's useless to anyone who'd try to resubscribe it. It sounds like you already did that.

I'm not familiar with the sony reciever. Is it like the MyFi where it "docks" into the car kit, or is it different?

It's this model.

Receiver

It locks in. They just cut the wires and took the whole thing. They cut the wires...lol.

Total newb job.

Like someone who tried to steal my truck before I bought it. They took a screw driver or something to the drivers side lock. But they couldn't get it to unlock. So they ended up just fing up the drivers side lock alot and gave up. All they needed was a coat hangar to get into the dang thing.

People steal the electronics because it looks like something that is valuable. Those that don't know how XM works will just do it for crack money.
