Someone hacking my eBay account

Cawchy87

Diamond Member
This is the second time now I have recived this e-mail from ebay and after the first one I changed my password to something crazy so it was imposible to guess.

Basicly eBay is telling me to do nothing. But is there anything I can do?

My IP address starts with 24.etc. And no one in Canada has an IP that starts with that.

Dear eBay member

We recently noticed more attempts to log in to your eBay account from a
foreign IP address and we have reasons to belive that your account was compromised
by a third party without your authorization.

If you recently accessed your account while traveling, the unusual log in attempts
may have been initiated by you.
However,if you are the account holder please verify that, clicking on the link below,
fill the form and then submit. In this way we will verify your identity.

LINK

The log in attempt was made from:
IP address: 184.158.158.98
ISP host: 184.158.158.98

If you choose to ignore our request , your account will be suspended until you will verify your identity
.

We ask that you allow at least 72 hours for the case to be investigated and we
strongly recommend not to make any changes to your account in that time.

If you received this notice and you are not the authorized account
holder, please be aware that it is in violation of eBay policy to represent

First of all, DO NOT Click on that link to "verify" your account.

If you think there might be a real problem, go to the webpage yourself by typing in the address, and check out your account that way.

My IP address starts with 24.etc. And no one in Canada has an IP that starts with that.

oh really? right from my router:

IP Address 24.150.255.104
DHCP Client
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.240.0
Domain Name Server 24.226.1.94
24.226.1.93

No one in Canada has the 184 beginning. Most people in Canada including myself have IP's that start with 24

this is a scam, i just saw this on another forum today. Ebay locks your account when something is wrong.

here you are anyway:

Change your password again, to something really difficult and contact eBay directly and talk to them about this.

Also note, Shaw used to be 24.xxx.... but have migrated most of their users to a 64.xxx.. or 70.xxx.. address.

Never, never never never never log into ebay via an email....

They'll lock your account if something's wrong, not ask you to verify information.

Open your favorite browser... now...
type in "www.ebay.com"
(or ebay ctrl-enter if you prefer to show some saviness)

log in
change your password now (since it sounds like you gave it to someone else in a previous email)

good luck.

yes, they are scam emails, look at the source properties, one is from a website in japan and the other somewhere else

never click any links in "ebay" emails , never ever

Any legit contact from EBay will come to your real registered name or screen name. Contacts to "Dear EBay User" are phishing scams...

Wow....just Wow....

Well, I forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com and did not click on the link nor did I click on the link. I copy pasted the link into another window and it came up as an error.

Thanks for confirming this.

I got one of those and I notified Ebay right away. Its a phishing scam and mine originated from Amsterdam.

Although it makes me wonder--is there money to be made in teaching spam-writers correct, gramatical English? Granted, you'd be working for the dark side, but if you only made the interest off of that $127 million sitting in Nigeria.

Ok, no upstanding member of AT would help these people carry out their vicious schemes.
However, can someone explain why these people wouldn't run their scam past a native English speaker first?

Just a few examples:

Dear eBay member [What, no colon, no comma? Usually, we put something after the salutation.]
We recently noticed more attempts to... [More? When was the first? Something tells me that a giant like eBay would use a standard form letter that could be used for either first-time or subsequent problems.]
If you recently accessed your account while traveling, the unusual [We usually put spaces following commas as well. It's just something we do.]
In this way we will verify your identity. [What native English speaker would write that?]
The log in attempt was made from [Perhaps you mean log-in? or perhaps login?]
If you choose to ignore our request , your account [Nope, spaces come after commas, not before...]

Ok, I'm tired, someone else take over for me?

(Edited because I commited the sin of ranting about improper use of English, and had a spelling mistake myself. Eh, there are probably others.)
