Someone give me a quick rundown of Skype and why it's so great

I have seen it mentioned all over the place and ever issue of PC Magazine, and I know(or think) it's a way to make calls over the net..but that's the extent of my knowledge. And I have seen several headseats that use it.

Thats pretty much it, free pc to pc calls and cheap pc to landline

It's a telecommunications network built mostly from elmer's glue, scraps of animal fur, bits of old motor wire and shards of broken lightbulbs. What more could you ask for?

I just use it for chatting with people - just like any other IM client.

It's cheap. Oh, and if you have EVDO or HSDPA it lets you get away with mobile VoIP
