Pinellas Deputies Investigate Shooting

PINELLAS PARK - A man died early Friday morning following a confrontation with Pinellas Sheriff's Office deputies.

According to a sheriff's spokesman, three deputies met around 3 a.m. at a parking lot near the Boardwalk Apartments on 102nd Avenue.

The deputies noticed a laser beam pointed at them coming from an apartment at the complex. The deputies went to the apartment to investigate and were met by a man and woman. The couple wouldn't let the deputies in, officials said.

At some point, the woman left the apartment with a child and talked with the deputies. The man remained inside. One deputy went inside the apartment to get the man. While inside, a gunshot was heard.

The man died. After the shooting, deputies found a 2-year-old inside the apartment.

No other details of the shooting were immediately available.

Apparently they heard someone inside say "I'm going to get my gun" but I still don't know exactly what led to the shooting.

"Dumbass points laser pointer at cops, they investigate, Darwin smiles as said dumbass threatens cops and gets gunned down"

Moral of the story? Dont do stupid stuff (Such as point laser pointers at cops) and then decide to play Billy Badass.

Anyways, I think pointing laser pointers at cops gives them the right to deadly force anyways.

I'm guessing to try not to escalate the situation by having half the police force in the guys house. You know, send in one man with a olive branch kinda deal.
But I really dont know. Personally if it was me I'd have had everyone there right on my heels as backup.

They often split people up to see if their stories match. I'm betting the cop that went in wasn't on edge or they both would have entered. But who the hell knows with a report like this.

Pointing laser pointers (Which could EASILY be lasers on weapons) at law enforcement officials would DEFINATELY qualify as "Not too smart"
