Someone explain the basic Xbox 360 warranty terms to me

I know the warranty on my 360 is about to run out, I bought it used (although it had only been used for about a month when I got it) and it had the extended 2 year warranty, that was back when the 360's had a 90 day standard warranty. That then got extended to 3 years when MS upped the starting warranty to 1 year. I think it runs out in late September or early October.

I had my 360 die on me (non-RROD) in Dec '07 and they sent me a new unit, that doesn't extend my warranty at all does it (I doubt it).

What do new 360's come with now? Reason I ask is because I'm looking at another used (local) 360 Jasper arcade unit to replace the console I've currently got. Seller says it has a 3 year warranty (apparently the card hasn't even been filled out yet), I didn't know if that was standard now for all 360's or if that's a purchased extended warranty.

Seller seems like a straight shooter, never had it online, is not giving a "too good to be true" deal (all I really want is the console and power brick, I think I can get 'em for $140). If it was an extended warranty and no tax and such, is that worth it?

The seller may be confusing the standard warranty (1-year) with the RROD warranty (3-year). I'd ask him if he purchased an extended warranty for it. If not, it is the 1-year/3-year warranty deal.

That's what I thought, I just sent him an email asking him that, we'll see what he says. I think it might be just a RROD warranty.

If it's just the standard warranty is that worth a purchase for $140 or should I A) extend the warranty on my current 360 (Zephyr machine) or B) Buy a new Jasper Arcade unit? I'd like the extended warranty, the only 360 I had die on me was non-RROD related.

I'm not sure, I haven't seen anything on extensions anywhere...maybe I should give MS a call.

Yeah, just got a response from him, it's the "standard" warranty, (I think he believes it's a 3 years for everything warranty, I myself have no clue).

Dell.com has the Arcade unit for $170 at the moment although I'd have to pay shipping on it which would bring it to $185...

Yeah, I'd find out the cost to extend a warranty (if that's possible) and use that to come up with a judgment.

Is there anywhere online I can go to see how much warranty I have left on my console or does that also require a call?

You should be able to go to Xbox.com's support page and find out there if you registered it. If not, you can register it and tie it to your Live account.

I might give that a whirl when I get to a place where I can get to Xbox's website, at work it's blocked.

I'm at the library across from where I work, discovered I don't have my console registered to my ID.

I DID discover though that my father in law, who is staying with my wife and I and was trying to figure out how to use the TV yesterday (and was fiddling around with the xbox 360 remote) purchased the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack for me...how wonderful, a map pack I didn't want for a game I don't own.

Any way to cancel that? I doubt it...

All sales final.

I'd say sell/ebay your current system and buy a new Jasper arcade. Will probably be the cheapest option and it gets you new hardware.

I'm gonna take this guy's Jasper console (he seems like a pretty nice guy), I'm going to test and make sure it's not banned (he says he's never had it on XBL, you can't take the Arcade models on to XBL without a HDD can you?) or modded.

My old console I think I'm going to sell (cheapish) to one of my friends, I just upgraded to a 60GB HDD so I can give him the 20GB as well.

Just made the purchase. Rushed home and he bought it over. I called Xbox customer support and had them switch the ownership over right there on the spot, I'll get the warranty extended within the next few days.
