Actually it could be either.

yeah, but the vast majority is raw things that come from the river or sea. Octopus, sea urchin, eel, eggs of things that come from the sea..

sushi = fish (either raw or cooked) with rice
sashimi = only fish (no rice)

both are general terms for nigiri (individual piece)

In Japanese cuisine, sushi is a food made of vinegared rice combined with various toppings or fillings, which are most commonly seafood and can also include meat, vegetables, mushrooms, or eggs. Sushi toppings may be raw, cooked, or marinated.

Sushi as an English word has come to refer to the complete dish (rice together with toppings); this is the sense used in this article. The original term Japanese: ?? sushi (-zushi in some compounds such as makizushi) in the Japanese language refers to the rice, not the fish or other toppings.[1]

Sashimi is raw seafood, such as fish or Octopus.
In restaurants it means basically raw fish without rice.

Sushi is rice.

Not true, sashimi is just the fish with nothing else.

Sushi is the raw fish wrapped with rice and the seaweed wrap into rolls or served on top of a clump or rice.

Sushi is usually made with raw fish but there are rolls made with cooked fish too. Most of it is raw though.

Depends. Some fishes have extremely delicate meat. You can cook salmon in soy sauce, for instance.

Usually tuna is always going to be raw(unless it's seared on the outside, but would still be raw inside), while other fish like shrimp are always cooked unless their microwave is broke. :D

Saying you are going out for "sushi" is a lot like saying you are going out for chicken. Lots of different ways it can be prepared/cooked.

I typically order rolls because I like the flavors/textures they provide over the more simplistic hunk-o-fish over rice (nigiri) or the very basic sashimi.

I like my tuna raw but my salmon cooked. Personal preference.

When I make it at home I typically sear the tuna as a precaution. Searing it will kill anything on the surface but still leaves it basically raw inside.
