Someone explain laptops to me...

Ok so i mite be in the market for a latpop around a 1000 bux....so i goto dell's site and i see that they have like laptops ranging from 1.6-2.xghz, then they also have laptops that are like 1.3ghz (600m) ...whats the diffrence, what kinda speed diffrences can i expect, im guessing its wrong for me to look at mhz and say one is faster/better then the other...
 
ive got a 600m with the 1.3 pentium m.
with laptops there are 3 kinda of intel processors currently being used as far as i know

Celeron / Pentium 4 desktop Model - Full blown desktop processor - sucks down battery life like you wouldnt beleive

Mobile Celeron / Pentium 4 -m - Mobile versions of the desktop processors, better battery life but basiclly the same thing

Pentium M (aka centrino, aka banias) - Newest line of intel chips for laptops, they have redone the artecheture (sp?) of the chip and it is better than ever. The PM runs on a 1mb l2 cache, i do not know the fsb off hand sorry. This is also a low voltage chip.

with the 600m expect around 4 hours of battery life depending on usage. Other centrino based notebooks have better battery life 5-6 hours or so.
 
What is the processing power like with the mobile (centrino) chips vs the regular p4 chips...Also ive heard with laptops you really dont feel a diffrence in speed with anything over 1 ghz, is this true?
 
A Pentium-M 1.3GHz is about the same speed as a P4(m) at 1.8GHz.

It depends on what you're doing, as to whether you'll notice a speed difference. if you're simply word processing etc, then you probably won't, but if you're doing something more CPU intensive, then you probably will
