Guess the driver was traveling too fast and got lodged.

fuck him.

People who drive the same on dangerous roads as they did on clean roads are just asking for trouble.
Your bullshit may have previously been OK when you had traction, it is not acceptable now.

BUT BUT I HAVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE!!!

Good tires and common sense driving > 4 wheel drive

Some asshat took out my mailbox last night when the roads were snow covered.
I watched him pull into the driveway and I thought he was coming to my door.
Instead, he looked at his front bumper, got back in his car and drove off.

My faith in humanity can only be restored if he returns today.

I see you're in Columbus - what area? Hopefully you got his plate?

Four wheel drive vehicles have some pluses and some minuses

Pluses:

Better visibility to the front

Less likely to be damaged if hit by smaller cars

Better traction to get moving initially

Higher ground clearance to get over object and snow

Minuses:

More blind spots to the sides and rear

Higher center of gravity makes it easier to overturn

No matter 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, it will not help you steer or stop better

Nothing will help an incompetent driver or if some other idiot runs into you.

Err SUV <> AWD

An SUV in a ditch when the roads are slick... what a shock.

As much of a shock as it is to see you post about it. 😀

And it couldn't be because they were too brave driving too fast. It's because these things are heavy and carry more momentum. Yup!

Truthfully there could be tons of reasons why they add to the stereotype. Like there's a LOT of SUVs/CUVs on the road these days especially tasked in inclement weather. Or they're more likely to be driven by the less-skilled grocery-getting half of the household. What's the excuse for a sedan in a ditch?

A vehicle with larger mass would tend to take longer to come to a full stop. AWD/4WD systems I don't believe aid in braking and/or steering situations, especially if you don't have the right tires for the road to begin with. Driving a vehicle that sits high off the ground, be it an SUV, CUV, truck, or van gives one a false sense of security, even doubly more so if it's an AWD/4WD system but you're an overly confident driver or driver who's driving ability is greatly lacking.

Know the limits of your vehicle, the environment you're under, and your ability and one should be fine on the road with any time of drive train and vehicle.

Yeah some people seem to think they are invincible because they drive a SUV, 4x4, or just the fact that they have winter tires. "I just got winter tires, I'm never going to get stuck!".

I drove with summer tires in winter for the longest time with no issus, just never bothered to get winter ones till this year. Makes a huge difference, but still have to be careful.
