i bought memory for them all the time about 4 years ago.... now i find myself having to start back to get into building pcs again... i have not even surfed for the latest stuff recently ... so i went to crucial.com to find out about prices and man, the prices are expensive... really expensive... does anybody know why?

depends on what you are looking for. Remember, just b/c a standard is old doesen't mean it'll be cheap. When the fab's go offline for a new standard, the supply of the old standards dries up pretty quickly and with people wanting to upgrade old boxes....

Look at SDRam if you don't believe me. 512 double density got down to 40$ in the spring of 2003. My company paid 90$ per stick in late '04

let's just say if you think you'll ever need more DDR1, buy it NOW

I'm not sure where Micron fabs are, but Micron is based in the US.
