lol. I can't help but laugh because she left a car that was started with keys (as opposed to a remote starter) alone.

Thieves are indeed scum. Bastards stole ~$2k worth of car audio from me earlier this year, not to mention the damage they did to the body and interior in the process.

Hope the guy who stole it crashes and DIAF...

I hope you were insured...

I've never understood the point of doing this, anyway. I'd rather just wear appropriate garments to keep me warm.
Aren't there usually laws on the books against doing this, anyway?

That depends entirely on where you live. I have lived a number of places where everyone does it all the time without problems (Kansas and Wisconsin) while you would have to be insane to do it other places (Arizona).

And fwiw, when I do it I start it with one set of keys, lock it, and use the other set to get back in.

Might want to check your insurance policy i think some will not cover theft if the keys were willfully/intentional left in the car.

But this is well known that theives look for this. If you are dumb enough to do this have 2 keys. 1 to start and 1 to open your lock car when ready to use. Or a remote start.

Wow...never thought someone would actually do something like that. Considering they know you're going to be coming back to it soon so cops could be on their ass in no time. You did call the cops ASAP right?

Cops were here within minutes....probably passed them on the way. We have a lot of back roads around here, been cruising them with no luck.

The parody thread was better than this one and shouldn't have been locked, although your wife's car should have been.

Sucks for you, hope insurance works out for you.

Yup. I used to live in a small town on the very edge of the Kansas City metro area. Every neighbor had every other neighbors house keys. If someone left their garage open one of the neighbord would go and close it. Heck, quite a few people simply never locked their doors (nothing like calling a neighbor to ask to borrow something and they say to go on in because the doors are unlocked and they are not home). Ahh, the way things should be.....

EDIT: I wonder if all these people saying that there is no reason to start your car in advance have ever lived anywhere that it gets really cold on a regular basis.

Ditto. My drive to work is 15 minutes. I can bear it long enough for that. Even my old car is decently warm by the time I'm done scraping the windows.

Sorry OP. Hope they recover it and string the thief up by their genitals.

Just out of curiosity, what are the "appropriate garments" that you would wear if it were 20 degrees below zero (Farenheit)? Would you put on thermal underwear beneath the business suit, and follow up with snow pants? I went out and started the car for my wife this morning so it'd be warm when she got in... it wasn't even that cold out :)

I thought this was a thread where we are supposed to replace the X in the title with something that we have had stolen. Like awesome dude stole my bike! Seriously, why would you use an abbreviation that no one would understand?
