Heck, I can walk right over to Lord&Taylor, Off5th (Sak's outlet), Nordstroms (during sales) or that customer service nightmare called Macy's and get even better clothes for the same or less. Latest find was a Kenneth Cole Vneck cotton sweater for $15. I do 70% of my clothes shopping in the mall... always during non-peak hours. Rest is Bob's Stores & GAP standalone stores for Tshirts, underwear, socks, etc.

What I don't get is why people spend money at the malls when those same clothes will be at the outlets and Costco's next year and a whole lot cheaper. You're just paying for the name on the clothes and the "prestige" of shopping at L&T/Sak's/Nordstroms.
I tell you what, I'll stitch my name on my (clean) underwear and call it "Geek Wear, by Amigaman". You pay me $50 for my underwear. You'll say "Who the hell is Amigaman?" And that my friends is my point.

Because outlets and Costco don't neccessarily carry some of the brands & styles that people that shop in those stores are looking for. Personally I can't bring myself to pay anywhere near retail. 25% retail... no chance. Follow Rossman's advice... NEVER pay retail.

When you shop the malls for clearances, it's pretty much like getting first dibs on stuff that will prolly end up at the outlet for the same price. So why not? Besides, as I said before... some styles and makes that have very well-made clothes like NYBased may cost an arm&leg at normal prices will drop to Old Navy & outlet store prices on some sales. Why not? Especially when the nearest outlet is far away and Costco doesn't carry any clothes you want?

i go to the mall a few times a year to drop a few hundred. every time i go, I end up hitting the sale racks though. I'll buy 10 items for 20 bucks, so I end up with a crapload of clothes.

You got a point about that. I can't find everything I need at Costco, hence Old Navy's and outlets. But I still refuse to go into malls to buy clothes. Something about when I was a geeky kid and I never fit in or some such reason. I have a scarred high school past. If you can find sales at the malls, then go for it.

I just spent $404 at banana 3 weeks ago. Got 3 pants, 1 shirt, a belt, and one pair of shoes.
