I'd have posted this elsewhere but OT is my home away from home & I just know someone here can help me.....

I'm planning on adding 2-64mb EDO SIMMs to my system for a total of 256mb of RAM. The only thing I'm stuck on is Refresh Rate! How can I tell if the ones I have are 2K or 4K? If my existing modules are 2K, will it hurt if the ones I add are 4K? Can you tell by the manufacturer's part#? (SEC - KMM53216004AK-6U, or imprinted on each chip is SEC - KM44C16104AK-6). I've established that they are non-parity (8 chips), 72 pin, 60ns, tin, 5V, but establishing the refresh rate is driving me buggy:Q!!!

Also, my existing modules are double-sided SIMMs! Will it hurt if the ones I buy are regular single-sided SIMMs? Will there be any incompatibilities with my existing modules?

I've consulted information sources at Crucial, Kingston, Viking, CNet, you name it. I established that SEC is Samsung and I've been there too, but apparently mine are obsolete and not available for even informational purposes. Nobody offers any way to tell whether they're 2K or 4K.

Please help..... -kd5-

Sorry Czar. I was seriously looking for help and thought I'd surely get some here. But you're right. I posted this in General Hardware. I'm just praying for some real answers.....I'm getting tired of reading everyones tech journals and so-called information sources. And Memory Configurators can't help either because these aren't the original SIMMs. I need specific answers, not general all-purpose information-type answers. I want to upgrade, but I can't afford a new PC. Thought maybe adding some memory might help.

This is driving me completely bonkers!

Sorry if I offended anyone with my spur-of-the-moment remark.......-kd5-

Its ok, sorry but this is probably the first time I'v heard of refresh rates in edo simms so it could be that it doesnt matter. I'v bought a few of those chips for my old P90 and never had any problems.

Surely hope you manage to find some answers.

I'm finding out quite a bit that I didn't know, in my research. Found out there are 2K, 4K, & 8K refresh rates in EDO SIMMs, and that you're not supposed to mix them.

I couldn't find the information I was looking for so I just bought 4-64mb EDO SIMMs so I don't have to worry about incompatibilities with mine. I'll either keep mine as backups, or resell them to the dealer since I have that option.

Thanks anyway, but I just got burned out on trying to find the information I was looking for. -kd5-
