Hi, I just needed some help to solve a problem. When I boot my computer, an error pops up. It says " Explorer.exe - Application Error" as the title on the top. In the error, it says "The application failed to initialize properly(OXC0000005). Click ok to terminate the application." I haven't installed anything today; the error just started coming since about an hour ago. The wallpaper loads and i accessed Mozilla through windows task manager. I did ALT+CTRL+DELETE and then went to file and ran mozilla. Can someone tell me what to do next? I really don't feel like reformating everything. I got games and stuff installed and I have also optimized my pc through the registry and stuff when I first installed windows XP.I really don't feel like doing it all over again. Does anyone have any ideas? I hope someone helps.

Have you tried running explorer through task manager, like you did for mozilla?

Yea, I tried running explorer through task manager. Same error pops up. Btw, what you mean by using a non-explorer shell?

Also, I forgot to include this but I ran virus-scan after my explorer.exe stopped running and found a trojan-horse and a worm(i think that's what it was) and I deleted them. This is prolly nothing but I thought i might add this.(Unless if explorer.exe was infected. Only thing is that explorer.exe didn't show up on virus infected list).

Those things emulate explorer? for real? I will give it a try right at this minute then.

isn't it possible to replace the explorer.exe with another? I have the WindowsXP cd. What if I find explorer.exe someplace in the cd and try to replace it with the one of my pc? also, I tried DesktopX and it doesn't help.
