no matter how many times i scan and get rid of crap I can't stop it and I can't reformat cuz i don't have the windows xp installation disk

my zonealarm firewall (when i had it) told me it was a broswer hacking attempt, and it stopped then my zonealarm trial ran out... -___-
any other HIGHLY effective firewalls available?
 
Well your browser can be hacked for those disagreeing. I believe another MS vulernability came out that allows remote execution for internet explorer.

But it sounds like you've got something on there. Apply all OS patches and run the normal cleaning tools.

The only way your browsr can be hacked is by spyware, adware, or using it to download a virus... as far as someone else using your browser that can only come after someone has gained remote access to your machine or by other means, like entering a port.. for ex. port 80 that is used by your browser. So I wouldn't say that is your browser actually being "hacked"
