I posted this in the OS forum, but it isn't as busy as this one.

My roommate can't access my computer through the LAN. It prompts him for a password, but I have no idea where I'm supposed to set one. It doesn't prompt him on any of the folders or anything, because he can't get that far. It prompts for a password when he double clicks on my computer's name. I'm running Win2000 and he was Win98. I can see his computer and browse throught it etc. I gave him a guest account on my computer, but still no go. Any ideas?

edit: Also, how do I change my bindings? It seems like everything is bound to everything else right now.

Ah! I had this same problem...I was the only one with W2k on my comp, everyone else on my home network has W98 and they couldn't access my shared folders, or it prompted for a password. Problem is, I forgot how I fixed it, and I changed some settings, and now I have the problem again. I'm eagerly awaiting an answer too! :)

Thanks in advance!

Make sure he's logging into his computer with the same username/password (I'm not sure he has to be using a password, but the usernames should match). I know when I wanted to connect to the computers at work to print through their printers, I had to log into my computer differently then I normally would.

MrBond, you are correct. I thought that he logged onto his computer as "First Name", but it turned out he was logging on using his full name. That solved the problem.

When I share files at LAN parties with Win2k, I have to do the following:

1) Set up the shared resource's security by "unchecking" inherit permissions, then when the prompt comes up, I opt to remove the previous permissions. Then add the user "Everyone" with the correct permission (read only, full, whatever), then add yourself/admin as full access.

2) Make sure that the built-in "Guest" account is ENABLED. This seems to do away with the password prompt on other people's machiens.
