I have a .dat file that I want to burn onto a CD so that a VCD player can play it. Are .dat files the same as MPEG-1 files? Because NTI CD-Maker (the program I use to burn) says to select an MPEG-1 file to create a VCD. If you can't use .dats, how can you convert them into MPEGs? I've tried pretty much all the popular burning programs but they all crash my PC...

Second thing - the DAT is 750MB, but I want to fit it on a 700MB CD. I know you can cut MPEGs, but can you edit DATs the same way? This also goes back to the conversion.

TIA!

You know, the DAT I had was 750MB, but when I converted it into an MPEG, it became 700MB (no cut in length). Strange.

BTW, you don't need to change the extension for WMP to play it. Mine plays DATs fine.
