Somebody has a lot of time on their hands: Middle Earth built in Minecraft

There's obviously some unofficial editing programs or false advertising being used. It takes over a month just to walk from the center of a Minecraft world to the limit, let alone build an entire world complete with epic-huge mountains and caverns and shit.

If you don't use any world editors or such it is one block at a time but more then likely with how large the caves were they probably did use one.

Still takes awhile to do a lot of the design even if you can essentially copy / paste parts like some pieces looked.

Yes.

Each block has it's own required ingredients and tools.

I don't remember what exactly you start with, but you pretty much start with nothing. You have to farm materials to make tools, then those tools allow you farm specific types of resources. Certain resources make certain blocks. The more rare the material, the more rare the tool/block can be crafted.

It also depends on the server a lot.

Some servers use normal crafting while others have crafting tools with unlimited life to help speed building up.

Also it looked like in that video they have flying enabled for some people and that alone can save you untold hours of building ladders and then removing them for large projects.
