Hi

My admin challenged me that even though my personal computer is not on the company's domain, he can still access it from a remote place.

Yesterday he was able to login to my computer from home and created an account on it.

I use mozill firfox on windows xp.

I usually log off my system before leaving.

How do i prevent this from happening. Also how do i know if the admin is hacking my computer

Is there any way i can prevent this from happening

Please advice.

If you are not behind a router you should install a personal firewall on the computer. Also disable unneeded services and users (UPnP, Remote Registry, Etc.). And lastly, make sure you are 100% patched and are running up-to-date software!

If it's on wired lan, unplug the ethernet cable.

Or, remove remote registry. Go to control panel -> security setting -> administrative tools -> local security policy, and disable remote login:
"Access this computer from network" -> no one
"Deny access to this computer from network" -> everyone

Or, install firewall such zone alarm with no preconfigured privilege. Disable windows networking, too.
