In the recent benchmarks with the new 7 series, Anandtech said that the 7900GT "only marginally edges out the stock 7800GTX in performance", but on the other game benchmarks on the next pages, the 7900GT underperforms everything? Why is that? Am I missing something here?

It's the slowest high end card, it will still beat everything in the mid range benches.

Also you have to keep in mind, 6800 GS SLI is 2 video cards while the 7900 GT is a single card.

The reason why it beaten is becaus the mid range cards are in anothe page now, though with that they should also seperate the SLI benches to be on their own as well. :)

Uhhh...I think you missed the part of the review where it says underneath the chart on that page comparing the 7800gtx and 7900gt in BF2,FEAR,Q4,and SCCT
"For a comparison between the original 7800 GTX and the 7900 GTX, simply imagine that the 7900 GT has a different label. "

AT didn't incorporate the 7800gtx 256mb in any of their other game benches since the 7900gt performs like a 7800gtx with a very small overclock and they didnt want to flood the review with tons of cards. Check that 5th page again. Maybe you were comparing the 7900gt to the 7800 gtx 512mb version and didnt notice the "512" part thinking it was the original gtx.
