So, I've had a new server built for my father's business for awhile now. He's working off a temporary box (win 7 with 2 x 1TB drives shared) until I deliver the new server. Since its been working okay for him like this, I told him I was going to wait for Vail to buy WHS, install it, and drop off the box.
Well, I've been waiting awhile now and suspect that it won't be ready by the end of the year. WHS 1 would probably work okay, I just didn't want to buy a license for it just as they're releasing the new one. So, I was thinking that I would install WHS 1 on the box and run it unactivated for the 30 days, and then if vail isn't out by then, just pay to activate version 1.
Apparently though, it doesn't seem I can do that. I can download a 30 day trial from microsoft, but it says "After 30 days, it will deactivate, and you won't be able to activate it". So am I correct in assuming that I wouldn't be able to activate it before the 30 days expire either?
I thought most windows products gave you 30 days to activate, at least. If I got my hands on an OEM installation of WHS1 (not the trial version), could I install it without a keycode and purchase a license to activate in 30 days (well, maybe 20 days to give newegg a little time to ship it)?
