Some very tricky questions.

err... but I contest #2 on the basis that two people running side by side are both 'last place' and so if you overtake the OTHER last place guy, you're 2nd to last.

And I contest #4. What if sadistic parents decided to name their son 'mary'.

That's probably only because they've been around longer...

Missed the first because it's early. heh.

Didn't miss the second but concluded that it's impossible to overtake yourself so it wasn't a valid question.

Got the 3rd no problem.

Missed the 4th because I read it as MY father has.... and not Mary's father has. Like I said, it's early.

I missed them all! Owned. 🙁

I like reading those fast, and "falling" into their trap though. I'm not one of those intellectual elitists who try to break little puzzles like that.

Another possible answer for #2 would be that you are in any place but last place. If you overtake the last place racer, you have simply lapped them from your position.

4 out of 4 😀 I am a genius (also, knowing the questions and answers from another site helps too )

well there are obviously some VERY serious assumptions you are making with these questions. Lets take the first question.

When refering to the people in the race you dont tell me what place they are in. You say the SECOND PERSON. Maybe this is a two person race and I am the first person in the race and he is the second person in the race ( the second person). If I overtake the second person in that case, then I am INDEED in first place. Second person has nothing to do with current place in the race.

In the last question there is not mention if Mary's father has sons. If that is the case why couldnt one of his sons be named Mary?

Just some observations

it reminded me of one when i was a kid and maybe u can help me remember how it went.

its a money one and 3-4 people went to a show and each paid the same ammount. there was a special so they all were refunded the same ammount but if you added the total up they were a dolar short.

anyone remember how that one really went?
