Some thoughts on the Mass. Governor Race

I was proud to vote for Deval Patrick with my grandfather this morning. As a 25yo African-American man I would be lying if I didn't say I take pride in playing a part in the election of the first black Massachusetts governor and second-ever black governor in the nation's history, but the truth is, I would've voted for him regardless of color (and I don't necessarily vote straight Democrat). He speaks from the heart, he has a common sense approach to taxation (why make a commitment to lower taxes when that means our already-sky-high property taxes will be jacked up even further to compensate?), and maybe most of all, he doesn't stoop to mudslinging and personal attacks like Kerry Healey did. And I mean some low, low irrelevant stuff on her part...

Anyways, here's to Governor Patrick. Together We Can.

Some other thoughts:

- Independent candidate Christy Mihos had one of the most hilarious TV ads ever. I'll try to find a video. EDIT: here it is!

- Massachusetts had a landmark turnout at the polls this year... that's great for politics in general.

I'm from CT so we got a lot of the spillover of Mass political ads. Kerry Healey ran an ad campaign that was unrelentingly negative-and also almost totally irrelevant. I bet her lousy ad campaign was a big factor in losing the race-and breaking the 20 year hold the GOP had on the govenorship.

I saw Mihos' ad before and thought it was hilarious-but I had no idea whose ad it was. He should have worked his name into the ad more.

PS - property taxes are way higher in New Hampshire, and probably higher in CT as well. Living in the Northeast is expensive, in part because our federal tax dollars flow out, not in.

I watched the video.
And WOW.
What great speech.
I recommend everyone listen to it.
