So buy the maxtor 40 gb, get the zip, and then goto staples.com and check out the deal to get the ATA/100 card...not a bad pull after the card is free, the zip is free, and you may even save some more through coupons!

Thanks for the heads up!

Say I ordered the HD via staples.com can I still get the zip or will I just need to get it from the store again?

I don't know if staples.com will honor it or not, I'll give them a call first thing in the morning if I were you. I got the flyer from the Sunday paper and I'll probably be there first thing in the morning to get my free zip. Staples is like 10 min away from my house.

So you gotta buy a HP CDRW to get this...hmmmmm, I just got a really cheap HP CDRW from Staples.com last week! I dunno if this is worth it. What would happen if you bought the drive, then returned just the drive, woudl you legally be still eligible to keep the MP3 player if it was after the deal went off? Just a thought.

Also-
will the zip usb deal work online? I would rather do it that way and get some coupons in on the action.

So if Staples happens to be open 24 hours in your area, do they start honoring offers at 12:00am Sunday morning?

I think that won't work because OfficeDepot doesn't have it in stock everywhere ... so Staples will not price match it.

I don't know whether OD has any of these or not, although the website lets me add it to my cart... Either way, I have taken ads in before and they just PM with my print-out... No calls. I think they would be on the phone a LONG time trying to verify availability. Regardless of that, it can't hurt to try! :)

hm... what angle would you have to work to get the Zip100 drive if you've just purchased the Maxtor 40gig w/in the last few days? i.e. the justification for them giving it to you after the fact. I remember some people getting that to happen from the Thanksgiving Zip100 deal followed by the Maxtor 40gig deal. I can't return the drive and buy it over again, b/c i got the 40 gigger (45, actually) for $95.00 after pricematch and coupon... so i'd have to buy it at the very least for 120 the second time around! any ideas? ty

I'm in the same boat as you Fraggle, just call Staples until you get someone really nice and it might happened.

crap... i just ordered a 40gb maxtor through their 1800 number since there are no close staples store in my area...

what are the chances of getting this zip drive by calling them back tomorrow and asking for it?
i already pmed the maxtor 40gb to OD and used the coupon...

anyone have any input?
im still kinda pissed at staples now cause they wasted so much of my time friday to try to make excuses not to PM OD's drive...

the zip drive would make me feel better :)

hehe, later
john

[edit]
man, why don't they have a staples store anywhere close to me? i live in the biggest city in my state, and all of the staples stores seem to be in small towns north of me...

is this zip thing one of those 'visit our stores and get the deal' thing? if so, then those who ordered the maxtors on phone or online... i doubt we'll get this deal...

They have it in my local one. I am going to go to Staples B&M tomorrow, bring in my Office Depot sheet, have them price match it. Then I am going to say I threw away my postcard or left it at home and I wrote down the number for the coupon. Give them the coupon and walk out. That's the plan.

Just received a letter from staples.com with $20 off $100 coupon code, it might be useful. However, I heard someone said the store might not accept online coupon. Anyone had this problem before?

Actually, I'd ordered the HD thru the phone and pm with officedepot.com 2 days ago. It's shipped and will be delivered on Mon. Any idea whether they will allow me to get the zip drive free if I call back?
