I check my MBNA account almost daily. I had just finished PMing Rossman and talking to him about the Dell deal when I checked it again. I had a temporary authorization from Wise Web Trading Company and was shocked by this. The amount was 38.99 and I immediately googled Wise Web Trading company to find out what product they sold. They sell freaking educational toys and never in my life have I ordered anything from them. I have never even used this MBNA account online except through Overstock.com and Drugstore.com. I know now that I should have used a one time use credit card number.

What do you think is more likely? Overstock.com or Drugstore.com allowing my info to be found, or a local place that got my number when I used the card? I am pretty freaking upset right now, but MBNA told me I would not be liable for any of the charges on my card.

I would say a local place that got your number. A gas station attendant where I live got busted for using people's CC numbers. He would ring up charges on their cards for small amounts so that people wouldn't notice. :|

I just talked to MBNA again and the CSR said it was more than likely a card number error. He said that it might have been someone entered their number incorrectly or the merchant. That is fine and dandy but I still want the account restricted for right now. I want to know why someone could accidently enter my number and it would post as a Temporary Authorization and not just reject it out right. If the billing addresses don't match up, why would it even Temporarily Authorize it? I am going to have a bone to pick with MBNA tommorrow because I don't think something of this nature should be authorized if certain parameters are not met.

I had him note on my account that I called in and asked that the account be frozen and that I will file a dispute tommorrow when they open at 7AM CST. This is the reason that I check my credit card accounts and my bank accounts online daily if not several times daily. I really think it should be harder for someone to make an error with the card number to authorize or for fradulent transactions go through. If this is fraud and it went through, I would guess they must have had my billing address information and then inputted their own shipping info.

Should I contact the merchant tommorrow as well?

I did get takeout from a restaurant last night and before that I had not used the card in about two weeks. The only problem with that idea is that the owner rang me up and I have known her for about 5 years.

Merchants aren't required to have matching billing information..

They just do that for their own protection, in order to avoid dispute
