some shots yesterday at my sister-n-laws

I don't know much about cameras, but why would you want one part ultra clear but the rest blurry, vs. everything fairly clear? I'm really asking.

Thanks everyone for all of your kind words.

In photography some people really like to have some shots where the center of attention is highly sharp and yet the other part of the picture is blurred out that is called "Bokeh"

an example of Bokeh taken with my Tamron macro lens

The contrast makes the focus of the image appear much sharper than it is.

And I went into this thread thinking you took alcohol shots with your inlaws..

You want to the person(s) in focus and the rest out of focus. It draws attention to them and makes them stand out.

Tamron's lenses in general are nothing special, it's just that the Tamron 28-75 2.8 Xr Di is a great value at $300 or so used and produces sharpness comparable with Canon's 28-70 lens which goes for hundreds more.
