So place your bets now, will it be faster than my cable modem? It maxes out now at 30K. :( And costs 42 a month.

I am about at the limit of dsl, nearly two miles, I think. I really, really, really want to tell the cable company to shove it. :D

I get to "self install" it. This should be fun.

Wish me luck?

when i had verizon the connection never dropped, even though it wasn't all that fast it was reliable with a good ping. Hope you enjoy it! I bet it'll be faster than 30k.

50K!!! With just a little help from the English language challenged tech support guy. :)

Now I just need to get the wireless router working. He didn't want to deal with that at all... said I should call Microsoft if I have to.

wtf... 50 kilobits per second? :confused: Why would anyone pay for DSL only to get 50kbps instead of 52kbps with a dialup modem for cheaper? :confused:

Capital K :)

Bytes I believe, 8 to a bit, right?

The punctuation of the K doesn't matter. It's the punctuation of the B that matters. Kilobytes can be displayed KBps and kBps, same thing. However, Kbps and KBps are two different things. :) Yes, it's 8 bits to a byte.

50 KBps = 3022KBps slower than my cable connection. There's GOT to be something wrong somewhere...

K = kilo = 1000 = 10^3
k = kibi = 1024 = 2^10
b = bits = 1 = 2^0
B = bytes = 8 = 2^3

I hade to stay symmetric.

nope, my cable company sucks.

They offer a tiered Service. 35 bucks for 112 kb. 42 for 240kb or 30KB :) and so on. 90KB is as fast as it gets with them, and thats over sixty a month.

I suspect its a good money maker for them... lots of people in town have it with them. I always viewed them as a rip off.

Now I need to look into a dish.
