We decided to take a short camping trip to a campground near Ocean City, Maryland called FrontierTown. The missus's son (my stepson) is in Scouts and went down there a few weeks earlier with his troop and reported back that it was a nice place. So we decided what the hey.... We also decided to go over the Cape May - Lewis Ferry with the trailer instead of driving all the way from where we live on the Jersey Shore (Sea Isle City), around and down through Delaware, besides it would be a neat experience. Took a few pics....

Super-fail attempt at an artsy-fartsy shot of the bay at the campground, the place was right on the water, very nice....

Really neat setup. Theres alot more to the little "marina" of sorts they have there, the channel turns to the right and goes to a larger boat parking area. People can walk from their trailers right out and get on their boats and go out to the bay...

Hey KDOG.

Nice pics. Way back in 2004 we stayed at the sister campground, Fort Whaley when i had my old tiny popup (pictures pictures in my Picasa web album if you want to see them.)

BTW, how do you like those bunk ends on the hybrid? I have heard mixed things about those Kodiak "non-traditional" shepherd-pole-less designs.

We are not scheduled to camp until late June but it is for a full week right on the beach at Assateague State Park in Maryland.

lsv: wut....

ScoobMaster: Wow, Fort Whaley looks better than I imagined.....About the hybrid, honestly if I could do it again, I wouldn't buy a hybrid but that may be just my experience with this thing. These bunkends are awful. We haven't had any problems with the rear one, but the front one's seal split and I had to pull teeth and twist arms to get them to replace it. I got it on but it looks like I'm gonna have to pull the seal up on the sides of it and try again. Theyre a pain in my opinion, but as I said it could just be my rig. In fact, Kodiak ditched these style for the other more traditonal style. If I were to get another hybrid it would be a Rockwood Roo. They seem to be "ok".

As far as Assateague State Park goes, I didn't know there was camping there. Thats interesting. I wanted to go see the wild horses on the island (which is in Virginia from what I gather) but I was outvoted. LOL.

We're still finding those dang stinkbugs in ours. The wife yelps everytime she sees one, hopefully we got them all this trip.

Your experience backs up the advice ALL my camping buddies I have met are giving me based on their transition to larger and larger campers: "skip the hybrid and go right to a travel trailer". I just need to upgrade the tow vehicle first 😉

Camping on Assateague ROCKS. You are literally camping on the beach (on the other side of the sand dune) and walk probably 100 yards from your camper to the ocean. The wild ponies/horses mingle through the campground and come right up to your camper. NOTHING beats laying down in the popup bunk with the screen panels open all the way, ocean breeze blowing through, and the sound of the surf gently lulling you to sleep.

We did the trip for the first time back in 2009 and have reservations for the last week in June. I can't wait to go back!

Check it out - Here is my album from the last trip
