I love soccer, and I can honestly say I don't give 2 sh!ts if the majority of the rest of America doesn't. I'm done defending it; I'm done promoting it; you either get it or you don't. Luckily I can now see it whenever I want, whereas 25 years ago the most I got was 30 minute Bundesliga highlights on Sunday afternoon from 3:30-4 on PBS.
What strikes me as funny, though, is while the rest of the world simply ignores American football, the soccer hating American sect take every opportunity bash it into the ground for being so horrid and boring. I don't really quite understand why that is. Is someone forcing them to watch a game they don't like? When NASCAR comes on I simply change the channel...
You either get it or you don't? You fvcking twat.
Are you offended by what he said? Its true, you either get soccer...or you don't. The people that can watch a game understand the game, they get it. Americans seem to watch the ball a whole lot...most of the action in soccer (at least in my eyes) is away from the ball. The runs, the defensive positions, the spreading of the field to a quick collapse. Its beautiful to watch IF YOU GET IT. If you do not...well, you dont see it.
No, that is simply not true, yet you and others continue to babble on about it.
Its like saying "You either get Nascar or you don't."
No, I fully understand it, I just don't enjoy watching it on TV.
So yeah, I am offended because the statement is simply dumb, not because he is implying that I don't understand the goddamn sport. A lack of understanding isn't why I don't watch it.
Fact is, we tend to enjoy what we grow up with. At some point in history, Soccer (football, whatever) won out in Europe, and then Europe helped to spread it around the world. In the US, Baseball (which I also find boring to watch), Football, and Basketball prevail (Hockey too I suppose, but not as much). Each generation grows up with it, and the popularity continues.
If I had grown up without those aforementioned sports being so popular in the US, but instead a major professional league for soccer, then there is a good chance I'd enjoy watching soccer.
