Exactly what my options are.

Right now it has 512MB--2x256 PC600 plus 2xCRIMMs.

Is it possible to buy one 256MB stick, replace one of the CRIMMS, and run like that at 768 for a while, then maybe get another 256MB RIMM later?

Also is it OK if said new stick is PC800? (I presume the MoBo will automatically de-clocl it to PC600?)

Also, I presume PC1066 is out of the question? (Not that I would normally buy it, but say I found some great deal on it, would it work (declocked of course)?

So the 4 slots can be thought of as 2 pairs....each pair must be matched in terms of size, no? But is is it possible to do 2x256 in one pair and 2x512 in another for a total of 1.5GB?

I got this MoBo/CPU combo kind of by mistake, but am trying to make the best of it. Freaking RDRAM and the constraints for use!

Rambus has to be installed in identical pairs. Also the speed is automatically "DDR." This is why you have to install in pairs. Also, IIRC (its been a while since i messed around with rambus) all modules need to be identical--ie, 4x256, 4x512, etc. Thats how i did it anyway.

Also, rambus is often faster than ddr, but its more expensive. So, dont be hatin on rambus.

When faced with the cost of upgrading their RAMBUS motherboards (most of which are several years old now), many people decide to hand the computer off to a relative and buy a new computer (or motherboard) that doesn't use RAM that costs the same as gold.

PC800 are 16bit, PC1066 are 32 bit. I heard they dont work but some website seems to think so.. someone should know here..

yes, you can do that.. I actually have a rambus slot expander, that use 2 slots and expands it to 8 rimm slots.. yes rambus sucks

I agree that it's kind of a PITA, but the system is set up and running fine with OS installed.

still exploring my options. Little Veg, if you could try that out I would appreciate it.

Must be installed in pairs. eBay is your friend for these kinds of items.
