I have a few questions :D

First off, should I remove my heatsinks in my computers for the trip? I have two computers with a total of four heatsinks.

Secondly, I have 2 12" Cerwin Vega 800W subwoofers that I've been trying to sell for quite a while. Should I just toss them? Don't post a value in this thread, the last time that happened with my PS2, the thread got locked...

Just let me know if they're decent. ;)

Edit: Pic of the subs (there are 2)-Pic

They are 16 pounds each.

If the alternative is a garbage bin, PM me and I'll pay the shipping to me! :Q

Edit - Official and confirmed dibs on the offchance he considers it :D

CPU heatsink - remove it, most definitely. make sure you have AS5 or some thermal compound and the technical knowledge of how to put it back on (and take it off properly, for that matter). there have been numerous stories of jiggles and knocks that made the heatsink rock enough to break its retainers and breaking a video card.

I heard of one that trashed an entire computer, vidcard, soundcard, motherboard.

BTW, If it's a bolt-style heatsink, it's not gonna fall off unless it snaps the motherboard in half with it. Clip-ons, definitely remove. Even a six-lug I wouldn't trust for a long trip. Across town, sure. I haul a Zalman-equipped rig frequently, and every time I check it, it's been just fine.

All 4 are clips. Two SL-7 HSFs and two stock 333 Celeron HSFs.

if you are careful with the computer and the heatsinks aren't huge, you can probably get away with leaving them on. i've never taken a heatsink off for that in my life and never had problems, but i guess there's always a first time, and i have heard bad stories. but if it's a bolt-on P4 sink or something like that, it ain't coming off unless you mobo tray AND mobo break, in which case you've got bigger problems.

The computer's not going to be bounced around. It's going to be wedged in between pillows or something.

I'm also wondering about my monitor. It's a 19" and I don't have the box. Can I just tape some styrofoam to it?

wrap the monitor in any blanket, and place it so it will not fall on its face.

Anything else? Maybe tape some cardboard to the front?

Space is at an extreme premium in my car, so I may not be able to put it face down.
