Some questions

Hi!

I'll probably buy a computer in January or February of 2006 and I had some questions. It's gonna be mainly a gaming/Internet/burning thing computer (not heavy gaming, more casual).

1 - AMD or Intel? Dual-Core or Single-Core? That's my first questions. Months earlier, AMD was the choice, but is AMD still the one right now?

2 - DDR 1 or DDR 2 ??
3 - Cases : Antec TX with 480W or Antec P180 with a PSU?
4 - Motherboard: Is the ASUS A8N-SLI good?
5 - Is the 7800 GT still a good choice?

That's about it

Thank you!

1. AMD, unless you game really casually and on a budget, in which case Intel. Otherwise a single or dual core AMD, depending on how much stuff you want to do at the same time.

2. Most AMD mobos are DDR only.

3. Depends. What are your priorities? Noise, cooling, looks etc?

4. Last I heard, but I'd do more research.

5. Yep.

My price range... from $1000 USD to $1300 USD. Also, I will not buy a monitor because I already have a good one.
When will AMD be compatible with DDR 2?
As for the priorities, I just want something that is good overall, not something that cools well but that is awfully noisy. As for the looks, I just want something modern, not necessarily State-Of-The-Art. I do like Antec TX / P160 / P180 's looks.

i would look into mabey waiting for M2 it's jsut what you want to do.

personally i wouldnt want to wait so i would look into some s939 Dual_core Opterons and mabey the GeForce 7series with a budget like that you could possibly get those recomnedations.

1) AMD socket 939, single core
2) depends on the mobo, you don't really have a choice
3) personal pref. whatever you like better
4) yes
5) yes
