Some questions regarding 1700+ TBred A, and MSI KT4 Ultra

First I ordered it because I didn't want to wait for the nForce 2 boards to be in stock (little did I know it was 1 day), so how bad am I getting screwed on performance? Also I have PC 2100 memory so that's only 133 bus right?

I am also wondering what I should shoot for for a very modest safe kind of overclock? I run an XP 1700+ T-Bred A. Is running at a 166 bus a likely goal? I will not run an odd bus (only 133, or 166 as I have had data corruption issues before). If 166 is too lofty what multipliers would you try? Remember my chip is sacred to me (being poor) so I am looking to stay reasonably on the safe side. I assume you must be able to run the chip bus seperate from the memory bus....? Also what temps are safe for the chip. Bear in mind that I have only stock AMD cooling for at least a week or two. Anyone have any ideas about a cheap hs/f that is a good cooler? (I don't want to spend more than around $20)

Tbred-A's are not good overclockers, you will have a decent overclock for a Tbred-A if you can get it to 166FSB. Look for a FSB/RAM ratio in the bios to set the chip and ram speed individually. I wouldn't be comfortable with a chip that ran over 55C idle. For a good cooler, go to svc.com, order a Thermalright SK-7 heatsink and use your stock fan (I think the stock fan is 80mm).

pc2100 is rated for 133fsb.

ive got a tbredA 1800 running @1975 12.5multi x 158 fsb. voltage is at 1.9. temps are 56c after marathon gaming. ive run higher, up to 2000, but i think my ram is holding me back.
since you only have pc2100 like me, i would see what the highest multi you can achieve, and then go up on the fsb. when you get some faster ram, then go higher on the fsb.
the chips are rated to operate up to 90c, but to be safe i try to keep mine under 60c. many would say thats too hot, but ive never had a problem.
good luck!

I'm not comfortable with anything over 60c, however retail xp cpu's using the stock hsf will go way over 60C - which AMD considers safe
