Some questions about e-mail.

I've been using e-mail for many years now, but I found that using a free e-mail service like hotmail, mail.ru, or yahoo is easier and more convenient than outlook express.
I'm using Verizon, and I tried to configure my Outlook express to receive messages from Verizon. Followed the instructions precicely, and still it returns an error.

I'm wondering is there's any free or low priced e-mail programs that are good alternatives for Outlook.
Also, I found that when I receive a number of files, like photos as an attachment, I cannot download them all to my HD at once. I have to do them one by one. - Very annoying.

Any suggestions? Advice?

Thanx, I decided to go with Thunderbird, and didnt regret it. It installed flawlessly, setup was fast and easy. Works like a charm. :)
