Some program is wanting to access the internet

Just built this rig with XP pro recently and I'm still on dial up 'till Jan '07

Incidents:
I was gaming and all of a sudden it knocked me out to the desktop and prompted me with connecting to the internet box.
Woke up this morning and the same log on box was on the screen.

I have, or at least thought I had everything set to "MANUAL" updates, but I did find that Windows media player was auto this morning so I unchecked that. When I get High Speed Internet, I will go through and check everything as "AUTO" 🙂

Programs installed so far:

Adobe Acrobat Reader
FilZip
Napster
Winamp
Ad-Aware SE Plus
Spybot
Kaspersky Internet security 6.0
Might and Magic Dark Messiah

That's it, other than what loads with XP. Slowly but surely I'm getting all my other apps. loaded.

Any ideas what's wanting to connect to the internet?

this may or may not help you. download some firewall application (i use and recommend comodo firewall) and set it to prompt you when applications try to access the internet. then you will know the name of the program trying to access the internet. the reason i say this may or may not help you is that sometimes applications try to connect as linked objects in another application. windows explorer does this all the time and it doesn't explicitly tell you what application is trying to get to the net. good luck.

Adobe, in my experience, can be really stubborn. There are at least two places you need to uncheck, I think.
