I don't support the military, but the soldiers who do fight have all of my respect. I simply could not do what you guys do.

You should rephrase that statement. Maybe you don't support the government that put the military there, but it's somewhat contradictory to say you don't support the military, but you respect the soldiers. Granted, one is an organization and the other are parts of it, but it's hard to separate the two don't you think?

I knew I would have to elaborate, I should have just done it in the first place.

First, I dont agree with people going to war. I think it is possible to come to understanding and respect without needing to kill people or blow up buildings. The unfortunate thing is that ignorance and hard headedness (on all sides) very easily take the place of reason when something bad happens or people think they have been wronged.

Second, I don't like how the military is run. I don't like that the "leaders" take the glory of fights won by the soldiers on the front lines.

"We will prevail", "We fought hard and we won", we this and we that... I am talking specifically about the president. I don't know if he has fought in other wars so maybe he was on the front line before and he's earned the right to command the soldiers he sends to battle.

The soldiers are the ones who lay their life on the line. They are the ones who protect us. I have a great respect for these people because this is something I simply could not do. They have more courage and heart then I think I could ever have.

Holy shit, they still use Deuces? (M35A2). What year are those? They can't be from the 70's, right? Still multifuel?

Cool, but I stopped playing with guns that had plastic plugs on the end when I was a kid. Remember those cap guns? :)

I guess it's the only time most people will ever drive in an H1 :D

If you ever get any internal shots on the tanks I'd love to see them.

Sorry, wrong. The other side doesn't play by those rules, so you can't either. The thread is off track though, but until human kind evolves out of physical violence those who instigate it can only be dealt with by returning the favour. I see you've prepped well though to get out of conscription if it ever comes back ;)

Getting into P&N territory here, but while I respect your beliefs, I disagree with your philosophy and your assumptions. Have you ever competed in something and even though you didn't win the prize, you felt good about yourself just for having competed and/or exceeded your own personal standard? That's what being a soldier in war is about. Doing something against your own humanity and living to tell about it. While there are ribbons and medals for what you've done or accomplished, none of that truly matters to a soldier in the end. The whole "band of brothers" moniker rings true during wartime.

Simply put, it's far too soon to place judgment on the leaders who initated this campaign and too soon to slight their accomplishments. True leaders, military or not, know that the decisions they make today will leave a mark on history and history will be the judge of those decisions. I submit that while leaders appear to "take the credit," deep down they know their decisions have yet to come to full responsibility. That is often why military awards are not given until the end of a campaign or conflict, because the true effects of what they accomplished echo across the battlefield in ways that no one can predict.
