Some pictures from my ride on Tuesday.

I met up with a local sport bike riders group on Tuesday and we rode up Palomar Mountain. I was the second one to arrive at the top of the mountain, there was one guy there who was really fast. I only had about 50 miles on a new rear Michelin Pilot Power by the time we got to the base of the mountain but by the time I arrived at the top I had no chicken strip left on that rear tire. 😀 Those tires grip like glue!

The guy on that blue GSXR750 was in front of me at the beginning but he waved me by after a little while. He can ride though, on the way down I started out in the lead and when we pulled out at the lookout area he led the rest of the way down as he was a little quicker than I was at that point. I rode with the fastest guys all day long though. It was a lot of fun!

Weather was perfect. Low 80s in the desert and low 70s at the top of Palomar. The elevation at the top is over 5,500' above sea level. Type in Palomar Mountain in youtube and you can see what it's like to ride up this on a motorcycle. 😀

Sweet!

I really need to get my ass in gear and take that ride some time.

Great pics!

Yeah, it was a great ride! You live in SoCal?

The fastest guy was on a Yamaha R1 and isn't in any of the pics I took, he was draggin' knees all the way up and down. He did another down and up while we were hanging out gabbing and shooting pics. There were 13 of us total (including one chick) and the fastest 4 guys consisted of him, the guy on that black Buell (which he has owned since December-picked it up for $7k new), the guy on the blue custom painted GSXR750 and me on my Suzuki SV650. Going in the middle of the week is the best because there is very little traffic up there.

Really a great group too. I'd definitely ride with them again.

Edit-Here's a nice vid of the tight side, this is the side we rode up and down. This isn't me or anyone I know, just shows how tight and twisty and technical the road is really. So many of those corners tighten up midway through, it's very challenging once you start to push it.

I enjoy going up to Palomar in my Focus. I'm not brave enough to do it on a bike though.
Last weekend I ended up driving the Palms to Pines Byway (from Palm Desert to Banning). That was a blast, there was even snow on the ground near Idyllwild.

I've ridden up through there on my motorcycle too. Very nice up there in the mountains during the summer but the roads get a lot of debris in the wintertime...not to mention the cold.

Central (Bakersfield). I really have no excuse other than laziness for not getting down there. 😉

Well, I can understand that. You're like 4+ hours from north county San Diego.

But hey, you live close to Button Willow raceway! I'd love to do a track day up there one of these days.

I just got back from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Of course, I had to drive the "tail of the dragon." Epic road.
