Well, I just got back from Jiuzhaigou, China. A very popular spot in the Sichuan Province in China for folks in China, but not quite known to foreigners.

Anyway, its amazing scenery and I havent really seen its type in the states (Yellowstone's waterfalls are gorgeous, but the water clarity in Jiuzhaigou is unmatched); its a rare opportunity for Americans to come here (its in a pretty rural area) so I just thought I'd share.

The water there is soooo clean, i seriously have never seen such clean and clear natural water. If you look in some pictures, the water is extremely still and clean, and the water literally becomes a mirror. those 'reflective' scenes are my favorite. In other,s you get a very strange, disorienting effect because you can peer right through the transparent water to the bottom, where there are shadows, but at the same time, there is a faint reflection on the water. very strange. in other parts, the water is so still and clear/colorless that its almost impossible to see where the water begins. :Q I think i Have a picture like that, you see the shadows and everything as if there was puddle at all.

Maybe I'll the pictures I took in Yunnan and Lugu Lake later too, though those are less interesting.

You shouldve also stopped by Thousand Island Lake in Hangzhou. Its not far from Shanghai and its a nice tourist attraction.
I went there alst time I wen to china. I also tried to go to the Three Gorges before the dam was really underway but I ran out of time. A lot of the beautiful scenery and villages are gone now.

Jiuzhaigou is a great example of what nature looks like when ther has been basically 0 industrialization and pollution.

If you're talking about Jiuzhaigou, it's over a mile above sea level. It's 80s tops there in May. I went there last May and it was around mid 70s. Like a typical NorCal May temperature. How's that hot?

I've always wanted to go to China. It's too bad that there's so much political crap involved with going there. Maybe one day I'll be able to go.

I've been to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Guilin, Huangshan, Lijiang, Dali, Nanjing, Kunming, chengdu.

Of those, Xi'an was one of the best experiences. It really doesn't have too much to offer as far as scenery goes, but the culture/history there is incredible. Anyone who has studied a bit of Chinese history knows the importance of Xi'an throughout ancient China. Plus, the terracotta army is a sight to behold! and the food too, Xi'an cuisine mostly consists of noodles, since its in the north. but there are 'jiaozhi' in xi'an that are famous. They serve you plate upon plate of different jiaozhis (dumpling things) that are all different colors, shapes, and flavors. For example, the pork jiaozhi is shaped into a little pig, complete with ears, nose, etc. Im sure you'll have a wonderful time in Xi'an-- there is so much history there.

As far as scenery is concerned, I would say Guilin was the most amazing. Huangshan was also quite stunning. Both are in somewhat rural areas (3-star hotels MAX) but thats partly why they are so beautiful. Again, it might not be suitable for all us Americans (it was difficult for me) because of sanitation, food, etc. issues. But, yes, Guilin and Huangshan are truly stunning. The remarkable geological formations are due to the relatively young age of China's mountains.

yea, jiuzhaigou was actually quite pleasant and actually very cold at times (50 degrees F) even during the summer, simply because it is soo high in altitude. the rest of sichuan was EXTREMELY hot though, as was shanghai. Picture of panda in Chengdu. Yes, it was that hot.

Im here now in Dengfeng and was wanting to visit Jiuzhaigou next.

Was it easily accessible? Do you speak Chinese, I speak next to none so I believe that would be a major problem in such a rural area.

Where did you stay when you were there?

Im leaving Dengfeng in the next 8 days and literally have most of China there for me to visit in a 3 week period. I have no place to go except where I want to see so Im open to any and all suggestions.
