Took a cruise out of Galveston last week and here are some shots I got when we departed of the work being done to her...hard to believe she is over 110 years old...one of her famous stories happened at D-Day when she was called to provide fire support and the German positions were just out of her range. They intentionally flooded one side of the ship (to raise the other side to increase the angle of the gun barrels which increased the gun's range and they were able to destroy the target.

Hard to believe it was around for WWI...was obviously retrofitted for the WWII era with more modern guns, etc.

Is it government that funds restorations like this? I'd imagine the state of TX would like to keep her in a marina museum state once it's finished.

The Battleship Texas Foundation received $35M from State funds and another $35M Federal government grant for these repairs.

If we were Russia, we'd be trying to ready that ship for active duty. :smirk: Roll it out of mothballs, it's still got life, right?

That's a hell of a large ship. Cool! Hope the restoration process goes well and we'll be able to visit the ship someday
