The strangest thing has been happening the last few months, since we moved in to our new home, some people keep taking pictures of our house...I'm not home to witness these happenings most of the time, but other family members notice them.

It seems to happen every week or other week. First it was a blue Toyota, now a red Toyota. Sometimes there's one person in the car, sometimes two. It's always been men, possibly Asian men, not completely sure. He/they usually come in the late morning, drive up to the house, right in front of our driveway; or more recently, make a U-turn and take pictures from across the street, and drive off! Once I've seen the man take a few snapshots and jot down some notes, then drive away. I've tried to write down the license plate number the few times I've witnessed this, but each time the car is perpendicular to my house/view and I can't make out the first or last few digits...and then he/they have driven off

What can this be? I don't want to bring this to the local police and be laughed off ;)

That's really weird.
I'd call the cops...it kinda sounds like they're casing you out so they can rob you later....

They're real estate appraisers. Your house was recently on the market/sold and they use the pictures along with other criteria to determine the value of other houses in the vicinity. How do I know? The same thing has been happeining to me for years. Finally, I went out to one of the cars while he was writing his notes and asked him what he was doing. Real estate appraiser.

Next time you see one just go out and ask them their purpose. It will give you peace of mind.

I think you're correct. I get people snapping photos of my house for comps once in a while as well.

Aside from the ever-present "I'm a pasty dork with minimal social skills, but I would like to meet attractive women and have sex with them. How do I achieve this goal?" question, that is.... :p

indeed, thanks very much HappyPuppy. :)

One question though, isn't, say, a picture or two enough? Why keep coming back for months? Are they expecting the neighborhood or our house to change?

It is probably appraisers, but your homeowner's association may be doing it also, especially if you are violating some deed restriction. But you would have already received a notice about that by now, so I would go with the appraisers.

yeah it could be reat estate appraisers or home insurance agents. They send people out to take pictures of your house for your home owners insurance records sometimes.

I don't much have a problem with these guys, its the utility man I wanna get!!! I need to set up a booby-trap!.

<no offense to all those utility people out there>

Alotta people take pictures of my house, mostly because they like the paint color, design of the house, front garden etc etc. As well movie people often come and take pictures of your house if they might want to use it in a set. Usually though people ask before they take these pictures tho.

Nope. When a buyer is getting an appraisal to buy a house near yours, the appraiser does comps. Each appraiser is going to take his/her own pictures for each appraisal.
