so i went into this computer store in the suburbs of milwaukee and am just walking around looking at what they have for sale. i'm the only one there, and the owner walks up to me and asks in a rather rude voice, "what are you looking for?"

i reply, "nothing in particular; i'm just looking." he remains persistent, "what are you looking for? i know where everything is."

i reply again, "nothing in particular; i just like to look for things."

then he says, in a rather cold tone, "well, this store is for buyers, not lookers."

i was thinking, wtf? what's wrong with browsing? the place has some interesting older computers and parts (i saw an isa token ring network card, token ring!) so i go to the bbb website and check up on his store. apparently he's had 6 complaints. i'll not be recommending his store to anyone i know.

"That's unfortunate because my company wants to buy $2M worth of hardware and being a local business, we would like to support other local businesses by purchasing through them instead of the huge OEMs. I was instructed to peruse the local shops and recommend the one I thought was best. Thank you for not wasting too much of my time."

OMG, I am now going to sit here and memorise that for the next time I find myself in that situation.

You should have looked him up and down, then tell him that "you're right, you're not looker. In fact you're an Ugly SOB"

From time to time, I run into attitude like this. I leave because they obviously do not want my business. Their loss....

strange guy with eastern european accent. i like his store. he sells a lot of older equipment which is really interesting. he's got old mac and mac clones, old 486s, and old laptops. well, i won't be putting any money in his store.
