Alright, well I got my new Panaflo fan in today (92mm M1A), stuck it on my SLK800, and the computer was still overclocked at 166x12.5, 1.70V. I go to onto the net for a sec, Blue Screen of Death, Reboot's and and keeps doin it. My brother said it could be because the fan only has 2 cables (no 3rd RPM sensing one) and that the board is detecting the overclock, but senses my fan RPM at 0 and turns off to protect itself. I thought he might have been right so we went out trying to get a 3rd cable of some sort, but that didnt work. So we came home, i try again, and yet again, BSOD. I thought id turn down my OC just to stock, and when i was in the bios, the computer just decides to turn off. Finally got it to stock with the old 80mm and it was ok. I was just trying again with the 92mm, tried upping my voltage, thought that could be causing the problems, but to no avail..

Anyone got any ideas whats goin on? The CPU had been doing 166x12.5 @ 1.7 volts just fine for the past god knows how long with the 80mm. Now it seems that suddenly today, that overclocking is a no no.. I dont really know what the suspect is.. PSU? Heatsink? New Fan?? i really am stumped..

My comp stats are

1700+ Tbred B DUT3C
8RDA+
1GB Twinmos DDR400
Seagate 60GB
SLK800
300W PSU

Help please Anandtech! :(

You're probably right about the RPM wire. Usually the "fan detection" can be turned off in the bios, check your manual for instructions. I seriously doubt the OC has anything to do with it....

well.. im too tired to change any bios settings today, but ill try again tomorrow.. what i still dont understand, is if it is the rpm thing, why didnt it work with the 80mm.. the 80 has all three wires, and it shut off at windows login at 166x12.5 @ 1.75.. im confused.. @_@

anyone else got some expert advice? shimmishim? thugsrook? ;)

i assume the 2 plugs ... 1 goes to the header for the mobo and the other to the psu... is this correct?

i dunno about the 92 mm fan but if you have it plugged into the board, it may be drawing a lot of juice from the board...

try using only the one for the psu unit and see if that fixes the problem...

2 good posts above: Check the bios to turn off fan sensing and/or plug in into a psu plug instead of the board.

still though.. i dont understand why then it still turned off when i triec o/cing with the 80mm. it has the rpm sensor connected to the board, and the power connected to the psu..

ill report back later ;)

well i finally got off my arse and tried what you said shimmishim, and it worked, to a certain extent. It was still BSOD'ing but my brother figured out that since i was splicing off the rail that my harddrive was using, it was taking too much power from the harddrive and making the OS corrupt almost. I split it off the floppy and put 1.7vcore and it seems alright now :) thanks again Shimmishim!!

Sound like you need a car battery to provide the extra power your system requires.....:Q
