im a junior and i was wondering, if i have my schools IP, network address, all there INFO to there network, can i login to there network through TELNET, and run one of there programs? like the school network ask for a password and username for everyone, can i login threw telnet, and access my account, the server is always on, they run a T3 line, and i have all there information, thanks people...

You use NO when you mean KNOW

If you have access then possibly. If they run telnet they are morons. What country are you in? Anyhow, if you have access, and they run telnet then you can telnet in and use a UNIX account. I think windows has a telnet server, but whatever. Dont do anything illegal. And if you do I hope you get caught and jailed for years until you realize that breaking into a network to change your grades is a stupid thing to do.

Ok i know my english, lol. See I can spell correctly, it's just faster to type uncorrectly. I just want to see if its possible. First of all they run win98, they have telnet accessible through their menus on their network. Windows98 does have a semi telnet, im in the USA, can someone help me, I don't plan to do anything at all. Thanks....

Did they give you a username/password? Why would you want to use that over telnet? Are you trying to change your grades or a friend's?

Actually, unless they have explicitly given you (or the student body) permission to telnet in to their systems, it's still illegal, even if you are able to get through.
BTW: For all you 1337 h@x0rz out there, ya might as well give up trying to get some of the heavyweights on the Networking Forum to help you learn how to penetrate networks. Not gonna do it...Na Ga Da.
If you can't get through a perimeter device, you don't need to be asking an AT forum, you should be talking to the admin in charge of your network.
NO i don't want to change my grades! i get average of B+ grades, i just wanna learn. They also have a program called perfect copy that every student is allowed to use, it's an english program, they give you short stories to correct, and u get starts if u get all them right.

Try it and find out. If they have telnet daemon running and accepting connections you should smack them in the head and probably not run the programs. If they are using DOS systems as server they should also be smacked. Windows probably could not do that through a telnet window.

You will have to enter your uername and password on that server. Then, just try running the program. If it is a text based program it should run just fine. If Microsoft Windows allows you to run remote GUI programs through telnet that should work too, but I doubt this.

You will not be able to telnet into your school using a 192.168.x.x IP. This IP range is reserved for internal network and is not resolved
on the internet at large. In order to telnet in from home, you would have to find a machine with a resolvable IP address. The truth is that
your school's administrator has probably already blocked telnet at the server/gateway. I mean, hopefully he has.

Pretty brave giving out that info. I would keep that to yourself. Playing around with stuff you don't know, specially when having to do with your school network is not a good idea. I learned from experience.
I would talk to the school network admin for any questions that you might have. If its something that can be done, then most likely he'll show you how to do it....

Most universities are on a private network and require you to dial in directly to their network before you can access their computers. Alot of universities offer this capability. You should check with your school if this is available. It will be a regular dialup modem. Once you are dialed in, then you will be able to jump to all their other computers as if you were sitting at school.

The answer to your question is no! If your school isn't running some flavor of unix or linux or if they are not running telnet service in windows nt, 2000, or XP then you CAN'T telnet from home to your school's network. Just because the schools windows 98 computers are running telnet client doens't mean you can telnet their network. Also like someone above said if they are using windows 98 for a server then they are morons.
